Caroline recalled a day when her mother sent her and her brother John to climb to the top of a volcano. She had “ideas about character building, so that we wouldn’t become spoiled,” said Kennedy, joking that some of the ideas were more like torture.
Jackie Kennedy told her kids that she would meet them on the way down, but when the pair descended they were told: “Here, your mother left $20, and she said that she’ll see you in a couple days.”
“We were like, ‘What?’ We were so furious, we didn’t speak to her. She couldn’t believe it,” Kennedy said. “I mean, she said it was character building once again…”

Happy 85th Birthday Jacqueline

I heard Caroline tell that story….
